Until I finally remembered that reinstalling Windows had worked last time. I uninstalled it and stopped losing focus immediately. I was surprised at the "upgrade" option and should have gone with my instincts that it would be a disaster. today i found that it was the issue and uninstalled it! My problem with saving the Admin event log as an .evtx is that it contains the names of projects I'm working on and have to keep confidential. After watching for a little while, I could see that the Adobe desktop manager was coming off and on the list simultaneously with the loss of focus change of color. So the simple story is to stop and disable startup for the esifsvc service a.k.a. "ESIF Upper Framework Service".
